All the MUNs I have participated in so far were great, but the moments that were the best are the punishments. I remember people dancing on Baby from Justin Bieber or singing it. When in 2018, CalsMUN raised 150 euros for ‘The Ocean Cleanup’, a project to clear the ocean from plastics. Best Technological Innovation: Sustainable energy. Renewable energy technologies are clean sources of energy that have a much lower environmental impact than conventional energy technologies. New technology is not good or evil in and of itself. I found that during the Historical Committee at Calsmun 2018, conquering the Mediterranean Sea as Italy was quite enjoyable. Best technological Innovation: The Gutenberg press. Being one of the first inventions that allowed for mass communication, by making books cheap and easily dispersable, it was one of the catalysts for the major cultural developments in the West, such as the Protestant Reformation and the Enlightenment. Giving a speech during the Plenary Session on CalsMUN 2018, my first MUN. Standing before all those people representing Laos was such a rush, and I absolutely loved it! Every MUN conference is one I like to remember, but one of my most memorable experiences has to be debating on whether every household should have a gender neutral goat, and thus a gender neutral bathroom of course, or a capibara, which would come with monkeys provided by Thailand. Best Technological Innovation: The epiphany onE Puck is a device, shaped like an icehockey puck, which lets you charge your phone using your drink. The puck has two sides, one for hot- and one for cold beverages. You can attach any regular charging cable and when you put your drink on the device your phone will be charged. My best MUN experience would have to be slowly taking over the entire world as the UK in the crisis committee together with my dear friend Pakistan. Still not entirely sure why they let me... but it was amazing. Best Technological Innovation: Obviously fire is the greatest thing humans have discovered - it launched us to the top of the food chain - but one could argue that’s all it is: a discovery, not an invention. In my eyes the computer, invented by Alan Turing, is one of the most revolutionary inventions. Winning the Best Delegate Certificate at CalsMUN 2017. I was Russia and was basically against the rest of my commitee. I still managed to achieve a lot with the little mun experience I had, which is why I won Best Delegate. Best Technological Innovation: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT). My best MUN experience was most definitely at my fist conference. The room was filled with experienced delegates and I was too petrified to speech. However, on the last day I had finally gathered enough courage to submit an amendment and speech. It went really well and my amendment was passed. I was incredibly proud of myself. Best Technological Innovation: I’m going to stereotype myself as the typical teenager here, but in my opinion the smartphone is the best technological innovation. The first time I ever spoke at an MUN conference was during a plenary session, which probably wasn’t the smartest thing to do as I was incredibly nervous. Best Technological Innovation: Rocket ship. Although being nothing more than a titanium cylinder with a weight of sometimes over 2590 metric tonnes, rocket ships are incredibly versatile. They have proven their usefulness by providing us with useful data about outer space, and they have even helped us put a man on the moon. During CalsMUN 2018 I housed two Turkish girls and, as a present, they brought a Turkish desert. It was some sort of cotton candy with chocolate flavour. So, when we had dinner with some friends, we tried it. Although it was very difficult to eat and everyone’s hands were completely covered with it afterwards, it was very delicious. My best MUN experience was my very first MUN. I was Afghanistan in ECOSOC. We had the most amazing committee and I have learned so much that weekend.
